I Am From

I am from... Um. I think that is a really hard question to answer. When I first hear the words, “I am from” I think of Darien, CT Because I have lived there for most of my life. I am also from Stamford, CT because I have lived there for 7 years. I am from my birthplace of White Plains, NY. I am from Poland and so is my entire family.  I am from the extra letters, dashes, and funky punctuation in the Polish language.  I am from the wealthy, the elite, the hardworking.  I am from the privileged, small, white town in beautiful New England Because my parents who immigrated from Poland sacrificed so much  And worked so hard to get me there. I am from the Vineyard Vines, Patagonia, but also little boutiques.  I am from “treat others how you want to be treated” And the believing that bread and wine transform into  The body and blood of Jesus Christ.  I am from the educated beyond the 4.0 scale. I am from the v...

Year in Pixels

At the end of December 2018, I stumbled across a neat challenge I saw on Pinterest. It caught my attention because it looked like such a colorful and creative idea. It is called the “Year in Pixels” and is basically just 365 boxes on a sheet of paper labeled by each month and day of the year. At the end of each day, I was asked to rank each day based on my emotions of the day’s events. The challenge that I saw had six different options to choose from with a corresponding color: horrible (red), bad (orange), average (yellow), good (green), great (blue), and amazing (purple). There are many other options that you can choose to rank your days by, such as smiley faces or different moods like sad, happy, angry, tired, frustrated, etc. However, I stuck with the challenge options listed above because I think those six words forced me to reflect upon an entire day and see what I would rank it. The “Year in Pixels” challenge focused me to think about all the internal and external elemen...

3 Things I Learned My Junior Year of College

-
Image
As my junior year of college draws to a close, three lessons stood out to me during this unpredictable year. First, I learned that friends will come and go. I’ve dealt with friends leaving me in the past in high school as well as creating a ton of new friends in college. However, this year made me realize friends can leave your life as quickly as they can enter it.    I’ve also always been such an open and vulnerable individual with others. Even when I first meet new individuals, I tend to reveal more about myself than others. I’ve been taught that vulnerability brings people closer, so I am quick to spark up a conversation. However, I want to be mindful of who I spend my time and energy with, so I’d rather get to know others quickly in order to see if I can form a fruitful bond with them.     However, after seeing some people’s truest colors, I learned that being so open can sometimes result in pain as your vulnerability can be used against you. This is the ris...
